The Solomon Islands is a country of over 900 islands spread across the southwest Pacific Ocean.
It is divided into nine provinces plus the capital territory of Honiara on Guadalcanal.
Tourism centers on Western Province’s dive sites around Gizo and the New Georgia Islands, where WWII shipwrecks punctuate coral reefs. Honiara International Airport connects the islands with Brisbane, Nadi, and Port Moresby. Independence Day on 7 July marks the nation’s 1978 break from the United Kingdom.
